What Exactly is Federalist-Inspired Furniture?

Many times, people look to the past for inspiration.  This is why there are so many antique designs when it comes to furniture; within antique furniture, furthermore, there are different styles that fall into this category.  One popular style that many people fall in love with is federalist-inspired furniture.

When we say federalist-style, what exactly do we mean?  Well, this type of furniture is described as an American version of neoclassical design.  Although this style shares many similarities with neoclassical furniture from Europe, the name was changed because of the period in which it became popular.  The federalist style became popular between 1789 to 1820, but continues to be in high demand even today.

Federal-style furniture can be described as wood furniture that features colored inlays and geometric designs.  The Columbus Museum states that there are several indicators that a piece of furniture falls into this category, which includes: clean edges, straight lines, contrasted light and dark veneers, and carvings that have eagles, fans, urns, shields, bellflowers, ribbons, and more.

If you’re interested in using this timeless style in your home, there are many different pieces of furniture that you can choose from.  In our last article, 3 Must-Have Federalist-Inspired Accessories, we discussed some of the accessories that can give the “wow” factor to your home.  In addition, you can choose from luxury antique beds, dining tables, seating, and even desks.
